This summer we're traveling southern Colorado and northern New Mexico. Today we visited Mesa Verde. It was a surprise to me, I always pictured it as being more in the dessert type setting. On entering the park at 6800 feet and driving 18 miles you're at 8570 feet. We hiked to a couple special view points totaling 2.5 miles. At that elevation with some easy climbs its about all these travelers can do for one day. But the views are totally worth it. They took us to a view of the Cliff Palace. The other trail was soda canyon trail which takes you in a 1.2 mile round trip with views of the Balcony House, which is the only place to see it with out going on the ticketed tour. Also you will see small cliff dwellings across soda canyon. This was all we had time for today. We will return someday and allow more time. If you haven't been it is worth the trip.
It has been awhile since our summer has been busy and adventurous. But this week has been more relaxed and I have had some time to catch up....
